Gosforth GP Access Made Clear
Use this page to quickly choose the right route for Gosforth Memorial Medical Centre: askmyGP, phone, appointments, prescriptions, records, sick notes, registration, home visits, enhanced access, NHS 111 or 999.
Searched “eConsult”? The official route is askmyGP, not a generic eConsult page. askmyGP is separate from NHS App and SystmOnline.
What Do You Need from Gosforth Memorial Today?
Start with the task. This avoids using the wrong phone number, wrong Jesmond site, wrong online system, or waiting when NHS 111/999 is safer.
GP appointment request
- Use askmyGP for urgent or routine requests.
- Submit routine requests early in the morning.
- On-call GP assesses capacity and clinical need.
Repeat prescription
- Quickest route: NHS App.
- SystmOnline also works if you have access.
- Phone or in-person route is available.
Sick note / fit note
- Usually needed after 7+ days off work.
- Use NHS App, askmyGP or contact surgery.
- Use GP route, not emergency care.
Home visit
- Use appointment request as usual.
- Say clearly you cannot get to the surgery.
- Best to contact early in the day.
Records / results
- Use NHS App or SystmOnline.
- Records can include test results and letters.
- Proxy access is possible for family support.
Closed or urgent?
- Closed and urgent: NHS 111.
- Emergency: 999.
- Minor injuries may be routed to UTC/minor injuries unit.
Gosforth Memorial eConsult Search? Use askmyGP
Many patients type “eConsult,” but Gosforth Memorial / JHP uses askmyGP. Use the official practice page so your medical details go to the correct surgery.
Create an askmyGP account
You cannot use SystmOne login details. askmyGP is a separate account.
Choose “Consult a clinician”
From the askmyGP home screen, select the clinician request option and describe your problem clearly.
Select Gosforth as preferred site
If you were originally registered with Gosforth Memorial, choose Gosforth. Appointments for Gosforth choice are at Gosforth Memorial on Church Road.
Send early for routine requests
The practice asks patients to submit routine requests as early in the morning as possible.
Phone if you cannot use internet
The practice encourages askmyGP, but says patients who cannot access the internet can still call.
Opening Hours, Phone Numbers and Out-of-Hours Help
There are two phone-number contexts: legacy Gosforth contact and wider Jesmond Health Partnership contact. Use the official contact page before relying on a third-party listing.
| Need | Useful detail | What to do | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gosforth Memorial address | Church Road, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE3 1TX. | Use this for Gosforth-site map and appointment location. | Do not go to Jesmond sites unless booked there. |
| Phone | Official header lists 0191 281 4588 (Jesmond) or 0191 285 1119 (Gosforth). | For Gosforth-specific contact, try 0191 285 1119; use official page for live routing. | Old directory numbers may not reflect the merged phone system. |
| Gosforth Memorial hours | Monday-Friday 8:00am-6:00pm; Saturday/Sunday closed. | Use askmyGP/phone during practice access hours. | Do not treat enhanced access as walk-in. |
| Enhanced access | Network hub at 200 Osborne Road runs until 8pm weekdays and 9am-5pm Saturdays. | Use only if the practice offers you a pre-booked hub appointment. | The hub is not open for general enquiries. |
| Out of hours | NHS 111 is the non-urgent medical help route when closed. | Use 111 online or call 111. | Call 999 if life-threatening. |
Gosforth Memorial and Jesmond Health Partnership: What Changed?
Gosforth Memorial Medical Centre merged with Jesmond Health Partnership from 2 April 2024. The useful patient point: the Gosforth site remains on Church Road, and original Gosforth patients should choose Gosforth as their preferred askmyGP site for routine care.
Gosforth hub
Gosforth Memorial on Church Road is the Gosforth hub for patients originally registered there.
Jesmond sites
Jesmond patients may use 17 Osborne Road, 200 Osborne Road or 5 Osborne Avenue depending on appointment/site choice.
No routine travel change promised
The merger update said no one would be asked to travel to a different location for regular appointments.
Appointments and Home Visits
Urgent and routine
All requests can be sent via askmyGP and assessed by the on-call GP. Decisions depend on capacity and clinical need.
Home visit
If housebound, request an appointment as usual and explain that you cannot get to the surgery. Home visits are not guaranteed.
Same Day Access / PCN
If the practice has no same-day face-to-face capacity, you may be offered Same Day Access at 200 Osborne Road or support from the PCN team.
Repeat Prescriptions: NHS App, SystmOnline, Phone or In Person
The prescription page says the quickest and easiest route is the NHS App, but SystmOnline, phone and in-person routes are also described.
| Prescription task | Best route | Prepare | Common delay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Routine repeat | NHS App. | Medicine name, dose, strength and nominated pharmacy. | Waiting until the medicine runs out. |
| Online service user | SystmOnline / SystmOne request. | Be aware custom medication requests have a 480-character limit. | Writing too much detail in the free-text box. |
| Phone request | Call 0191 281 4588 during normal opening hours. | Expect busy lines early in the morning. | Calling at peak time for a routine task. |
| In-person request | Visit No. 17 reception with repeat slip. | Bring the repeat prescription form from your last prescription. | Attending the wrong site for your task. |
| Pharmacy nomination | Use NHS App / SystmOnline pharmacy nomination. | Pick a pharmacy convenient for collection. | Sending medicine to an old pharmacy after moving. |
Records, Test Results, Documents and NHS App
JHP says medical records, test results and prescriptions can be accessed with SystmOnline or the NHS App. Medical records may include appointment history, test results, referral letters, hospital discharge letters, vaccination history and childhood immunisations.
NHS App
Use for records, repeat prescriptions, results and referrals where access is enabled.
SystmOnline
Reception can help set up access if you have not registered previously.
Proxy access
You can nominate someone you trust to access records if needed.
Safety note
Do not share login details. Contact the practice if record access may put you at risk.
Sick Notes, Fit Notes and Self-Certification
7 days or less
Use self-certification with your employer. A GP fit note is usually for longer sickness periods.
7 days or more
The practice sick-note guide says you may need a sick or fit note if you have been off work for 7 days or more.
Request routes
Use NHS App, askmyGP, or contact/visit the surgery. Do not use emergency care for paperwork.
Register with Gosforth Memorial / Jesmond Health Partnership
New patients are welcome if they live within the practice boundary. JHP uses the NHS Register with a GP Surgery service.
Check the catchment area
Enter your postcode on the registration page and zoom out if the boundary is unclear.
Use NHS online registration
The application takes around 15 minutes, or less if you already have NHS login or your NHS number.
Register yourself, a child or dependent
The official registration page says the service can be used for yourself, a child or another dependent.
Ask about records and proxy access
After registration, set up medical records access and request proxy access if supporting a family member.
Doctors, Staff Roles and PCN Support
The “Our People” page lists a wide team, not just GPs. That matters because your request may be handled by the safest professional, not always a named GP.
| Team / role | What the official page shows | Why users should care |
|---|---|---|
| General Practitioners and partners | Doctors, GP partners, GP registrars and foundation doctors are listed across JHP. | Training and wider staffing can affect who contacts you. |
| Advanced practitioners | Advanced paediatric nurse practitioner and advanced paramedic practitioner roles appear in the team list. | May support acute illness, home visits and same-day care. |
| Clinical pharmacist / pharmacy technician | Medicine roles are listed in the team categories. | Useful for medication reviews and prescription queries. |
| Physiotherapist / SPLW / health coach | PCN support roles include physiotherapy, social prescribing and wellbeing roles. | Some problems may be routed directly to non-GP support. |
| Reception / administration | Receptionists, secretaries, administrators and managers are listed. | They help route requests and manage documents, referrals and access support. |
Feedback, Reviews, PPG and Complaints
Friends and Family Test
JHP uses the NHS Friends and Family Test for anonymous feedback after care or treatment.
NHS reviews
Patients can leave ratings and reviews on the NHS website.
PPG
The Patient Participation Group supports service improvement. JHP’s PPG newsletter lists jhp.ppg@gmail.com.
Complaints
Use the official complaints procedure for concerns, comments or complaints. Do not use complaint forms for urgent symptoms.
