Use the Right Archway GP Route
Use this scan-first guide before calling Archway Medical Centre, using online triage, checking GP doctors, registering, ordering prescriptions, requesting a fit note, asking for a home visit, using NHS App records, or choosing NHS 111/999.
Choose the Right Archway Route First
| What you need | Best first route | Exact detail | Avoid this |
|---|---|---|---|
| Routine appointment in next 7 days | Online triage / Virtually Consult or phone | Use online triage or call 020 7272 0111 Monday-Friday, 8am-6:30pm. | Do not assume every request becomes a face-to-face GP slot. |
| Urgent appointment today/tomorrow | Online triage or phone | The practice asks questions to route you to the correct clinician. | Do not use online consultation for emergencies. |
| Practice closed | NHS 111 | Use 111 online for age 5+; call 111 for a child under 5 or if online is unsuitable. | Do not wait if symptoms are urgent. |
| Life-threatening emergency | 999 | Use for medical or mental-health emergency where life is at risk. | Do not use GP phone queue or online form. |
| Cancel appointment | Phone or text reminder | Phone reception or reply CANCEL to the appointment reminder text. | Do not miss without cancelling; another patient could use the slot. |
| Fit note | Phone 9am-6pm if more than 7 days | For 7 days or less, self-certification usually applies. | Do not request GP evidence for short sickness unless employer specifically needs private evidence. |
| Home visit | Phone as soon after 8am as possible | Doctor assesses the request and the practice team contacts you with an update. | Do not request for convenience or transport only. |
| Register | Check catchment, then online registration | New patients must live in the practice area unless using a separate out-of-area route. | Do not register before checking the boundary. |
Appointments and Online Triage
Archway uses digitally enabled triage. That means your request is screened first, then directed to the best clinician, consultation type or service.
Send or phone your request
Use the online triage service for suitable routine requests, or phone 020 7272 0111 during weekday opening hours.
Answer the routing questions
Reception or the online form may ask what you need help with so the practice can choose the right doctor, nurse or health professional.
Choose preference where possible
Tell the practice if you prefer phone, face-to-face, video, text or email, or if you need a specific clinician, interpreter or communication support.
Expect different consultation types
Archway may offer phone, face-to-face, video, text or email consultation depending on clinical need and practical availability.
Cancel quickly if needed
Cancel by phoning reception or replying CANCEL to your reminder text, so another patient can use the slot.
Use 111/999 when GP is wrong route
Use NHS 111 when closed for urgent non-emergency help. Use 999 for life-threatening medical or mental-health emergencies.
Opening Hours and Extended Access
| Access type | Listed detail | What it means | Patient tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday-Friday | 8:00am-6:30pm | Standard surgery contact hours. | Use online triage or phone during working hours. |
| Saturday | Closed on contact page | Standard reception is not open. | Check extended access before assuming weekend help. |
| Sunday | Closed on contact page | Standard reception is not open. | Use NHS 111 if urgent and not life-threatening. |
| Extended hours | 6:30pm-8pm weekdays; 8am-8pm Sat/Sun noted on homepage | Calls may divert to extended-hours service, or a separate number may be used. | Call surgery or 0203 370 7366 as directed by the practice. |
| Saturday online consultations | 9am-5pm noted on contact page | Reception says contact them for details or booking. | Do not treat this as walk-in weekend GP access. |
| Out of hours | NHS 111 | Free urgent non-emergency advice 24/7. | Call 999 for emergencies. |

Why you may not see a named GP
Triage may route you to a nurse, physician associate, independent prescriber, physiotherapist, dietician or mental-health clinician if that is the safer or faster route.
Repeat Prescriptions and Pharmacy Choice
NHS App route
Use NHS App or online services to order repeat prescriptions and choose the pharmacy where prescriptions are sent.
Pharmacy choice
Archway’s digital-service pages describe prescriptions being sent to a pharmacy of your choice where medication is recommended.
Check both stages
First check whether the GP has approved/sent it. Then check whether the pharmacy has dispensed it.
| Prescription problem | Best action | Prepare this |
|---|---|---|
| Routine repeat due | Use NHS App / online service before phoning. | Medicine name, strength, dose and pharmacy. |
| Medicine not ready | Check GP approval first, then pharmacy dispensing. | Date requested and nominated pharmacy. |
| Wrong pharmacy | Update pharmacy choice before the next issue. | Correct pharmacy name/address. |
| Side effects or medication concern | Use appointment/triage route, or urgent route if severe. | Medication name, dose, start date and symptoms. |
| Ran out unexpectedly | Use practice/111 route depending on urgency and opening status. | How many doses left and why request is urgent. |
NHS App, Online Services and Records
| Task | Archway / NHS App detail | Patient action |
|---|---|---|
| Order repeat prescriptions | NHS App can show available medicines and request repeats. | Check nominated pharmacy before sending. |
| Book/cancel appointments | NHS App can show supported GP appointment functions where enabled. | Use triage instructions for GP requests that are not directly bookable. |
| View GP record | Archway says records became accessible by default from 1 November 2022, but patients still need an Online Access consent form. | Ask reception or use official access route if your record is not visible. |
| Subject Access Request | If you want to see or receive a copy of your records, submit a request via reception. | Use official practice route, not a third-party page. |
| Find NHS number | The registration page links to NHS number help and says you do not need to know it to use NHS services. | Use NHS letters, prescriptions, appointment letters or the official NHS lookup tool. |
| Manage referrals | NHS App can help manage hospital referrals and access NHS information. | Use My Planned Care/NHS referral routes for hospital-waiting updates. |
Sick / Fit Notes: 7-Day Rule
7 days or less
Your employer should not ask for GP medical evidence. Use self-certification when you return to work.
More than 7 days
To request a sick note, phone the surgery from 9am-6pm on 0207 272 0111.
Hospital episode
If a hospital is treating you, ask the hospital team about evidence for that episode before asking the GP.
Home Visits: When to Request
When to phone
Phone the practice as soon after 8am as possible if you need a home visit.
Doctor assessment
You will be asked questions; the request is passed to a doctor to assess.
Not emergency cover
If the problem is urgent and the surgery is closed, use 111. If life is at risk, call 999.
New Patient Registration and Catchment
Check the practice area
Archway welcomes new patients who live within its practice area. Use the catchment map before applying.
Complete online registration
After confirming the boundary, complete the online New Patient Registration form.
Alternative paper route
Registration forms are also available from reception or can be downloaded and brought/posted to the practice.
Health check
All new patients are invited to make an appointment for a health check with the practice nurse.
Temporary patient
If you are ill away from home, emergency GP treatment can be available for 14 days and temporary registration may be possible.
Named GP
New patients are informed about their named accountable GP at registration, but this does not stop you seeing another GP where available.
Pharmacy First and Local NHS Services
Use pharmacy for minor illness
Pharmacy First can help with certain common conditions. Contact the GP if symptoms are prolonged, recurrent, unusual, or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding and unsure.
Other NHS services
Archway’s homepage links patients to local pharmacy, urgent treatment centre, NHS dentist, NHS number and My Planned Care services.
Use the right service
Not every health problem needs a GP. The fastest safe route may be pharmacy, NHS 111, urgent treatment centre, dentist or A&E.
Clinics and Services Patients Often Miss
| Service | Official detail | Best patient use |
|---|---|---|
| Dermatology clinic | NHS dermatology team includes GPs with special interest and consultant dermatologist support. | Useful for skin conditions, photo upload, video/phone/written consult and possible prescription. |
| Physiotherapy clinic | For sports injury, back or joint pain, with holistic care from physiotherapist and GP. | Useful where exercise, movement assessment and rehab may be better than strong painkillers. |
| Contraception & family planning | Trained clinicians advise and prescribe; contraceptive prescriptions may be sent to pharmacy. | Useful for pill prescription or method discussion without unnecessary GP visit. |
| Mental health signposting | Service pages include mental-health support and routing. | Use GP/111/999 depending on urgency and risk. |
| Carer support | Archway works with Age UK Islington and invites carers to register for support. | Email carers@virtually.healthcare or call patient support team if you care for someone. |
| Non-NHS services | Private letters, reports/forms, private prescriptions and private sick notes may be chargeable. | Ask the fee and timescale before submitting paperwork. |
Interpreter, Chaperone and Access Needs

Chaperone
Patients are entitled to request a chaperone for consultations, examinations or procedures where they feel one is needed.
Communication needs
Tell the practice if you need an interpreter, access support, communication adjustment or a specific consultation format.
Email, Complaints and Feedback
Admin email
The practice privacy notice lists apct.admin@nhs.net. Do not use email for emergencies or urgent clinical help.
Complaints route
If you have a complaint, contact the Practice Manager. Written information about the procedure is available from reception.
Feedback
Use the official Friends and Family Test / feedback route for patient experience. For safety concerns, use the proper complaints route.
