GP Booking Without Guesswork
Use this page before you phone Cauldwell, fill eConsult, walk to reception, book enhanced access, order medication, ask about doctors, check provider changes, or decide whether 111/999 is safer.
Key point: Cauldwell’s appointment route changed to eConsult Total Triage. That means your request is assessed first, then you are routed to the right clinician.
Choose the Right Cauldwell Route First
| Need | Use this first | Exact useful detail | Do not use |
|---|---|---|---|
| New GP problem | eConsult online form | Available Monday-Friday 8am-12:30pm. Fastest route if you can go online. | Do not submit several separate duplicate requests for the same issue. |
| Cannot use internet | Phone 01234 673710 | Reception can help complete the eConsult form and pass it to triage. | Do not avoid care because you cannot use online forms. |
| Walk into reception | Reception help with form | Walking in does not mean instant GP appointment; staff help start triage. | Do not expect same-minute doctor access without triage. |
| More urgent issue | eConsult/phone, then triage priority | Urgent cases may be contacted same day by text/phone for appointment. | Do not wait if symptoms are 999-level. |
| Routine annual review | Contact surgery as normal | Asthma, diabetes, hypertension and other routine reviews continue through normal surgery routes. | Do not use urgent route for routine planned review unless new urgent symptoms. |
| Repeat prescription | NHS App or SystmOnline | Official update says repeat prescriptions should continue through NHS App or SystmOnline. | Do not use eConsult just to chase a routine repeat if app/SystmOnline route works. |
| Evening/weekend access | Book via Cauldwell reception | Enhanced access is 6:30pm-8pm weekdays and 9am-5pm Saturdays, delivered at PCN sites. | Do not turn up to those sites without a booked slot. |
| Practice/provider concern | Official ICB/De Parys/CQC links | Provider changed in 2026; check current profile rather than old rating snippets. | Do not rely only on old third-party profiles. |

How eConsult Total Triage Works at Cauldwell
Start the online form
Use Cauldwell’s website or NHS App route to complete the eConsult form. Add your health problem or admin request clearly. You can upload photos where appropriate.
Use phone help if needed
If you cannot go online, call 01234 673710. Reception can help complete the online form and pass it to the triage team.
Reception help if you walk in

Triage team reviews
The triage team, overseen by a GP, reviews the request and decides the right clinician and timing.
Text or phone follow-up
You are contacted by text or phone within 36 working hours depending on urgency. More urgent cases may be contacted the same day.
Right clinician, not always GP
You may be routed to a GP, nurse, advanced nurse practitioner, pharmacist, physiotherapist, paramedic, mental health worker, social prescriber or Pharmacy First.

Doctors and Clinical Team: Who May Actually Handle Your Request
The title says doctors, but Cauldwell’s Total Triage system is designed to send each request to the right professional, not automatically to a GP appointment.
GP oversight
The triage process is overseen by a GP. If a GP is the right clinician, the team arranges that route.
Other clinicians
Requests may be routed to nurse, advanced nurse practitioner, pharmacist, physio, paramedic or mental health worker depending on need.
Social support
Some non-medical issues may fit social prescribing, wellbeing coaching, money, housing, isolation or community-support routes.
Repeat Prescriptions: NHS App or SystmOnline
NHS App
Use NHS App/NHS account for supported repeat-prescription services.
SystmOnline
The official appointment update says repeat prescriptions should continue through SystmOnline where used by the patient.
Pharmacy timing
After GP approval, the pharmacy still needs time to dispense. Check your nominated pharmacy before travelling.
| Prescription issue | Best action | Prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Routine repeat | Use NHS App or SystmOnline. | Medicine name, strength, dose and nominated pharmacy. |
| Cannot see medicine online | Contact practice/pharmacy for next step. | Old prescription label, medicine name and reason needed. |
| Medication review due | Book or respond to review request. | BP readings, blood tests, side effects or monitoring details if relevant. |
| Need urgent medicine | Use pharmacy/111/practice route depending on timing. | Do not wait until you have no tablets left. |
Can You Walk In to Cauldwell Medical Centre?
Walk in for help
Official eConsult guidance says if you walk in, reception can help complete the online form.
Not instant GP
Walking in does not bypass triage. The request is still assessed for the right clinician and urgency.
Phone if offline
If travel is difficult or you cannot use the internet, phone reception instead of making an unnecessary trip.
Pharmacy First and Other Team Routes
| Issue type | Possible route | Why it may be faster |
|---|---|---|
| Minor illness | Pharmacy First / pharmacist | Some common conditions can be assessed by a pharmacist without waiting for GP. |
| Muscle/joint problem | Physiotherapist or MSK route | A GP may not be the most direct first clinician. |
| Medication question | Pharmacist / practice pharmacist | Medication reviews, side effects and medicine questions often fit pharmacist review. |
| Mental health concern | Mental health worker / NHS/111 crisis route | Use urgent crisis route if immediate risk; otherwise triage can direct support. |
| Social need affecting health | Social prescriber / wellbeing team | Housing, money, isolation and support needs can affect health and may need non-GP support. |
Routine Reviews: Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension
Asthma review
The official update says patients with existing-condition annual reviews should contact the surgery as normal.
Diabetes review
Use routine practice routes and keep blood tests, foot checks, medication reviews and monitoring appointments organised.
Hypertension review
Have home blood-pressure readings ready if asked, plus medicine list and side-effect notes.
Mental Health, Social Prescribing and Wellbeing Support
Mental health
Cauldwell wellbeing pages signpost NHS mental health information, Kooth, Samaritans, Rethink, Mind, Bedfordshire Wellbeing Services, CAMHS and local recovery support.
Social prescribing
Social prescribing can help with activities, mental health, money, housing, jobs, education, relationships and isolation.
Pregnancy support
The wellbeing team page says extra support can be offered for women from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups during pregnancy.
