Need a GP Today? Timing Matters at Primrose Lane
Primrose Lane does not currently use a simple online GP appointment-booking system. If you need a same-day GP appointment, minor-illness triage, nurse appointment, prescription or test result, the time you contact the practice matters.
This guide separates the current phone windows, building hours, published GP team, extended-hours sessions and NHS 24 route so you do not have to piece them together from several pages.

Primrose Lane Building Hours and Telephone Hours Are Not the Same
The practice’s current Contact Us page was reviewed on 21 April 2026 and gives a detailed pattern for building access and telephone availability.
| Day | Practice website: building | Telephone availability |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 8:30am–5:30pm | 8:00am–12:45pm and 1:30pm–5:30pm |
| Tuesday | 7:00am–5:30pm | 8:00am–12:45pm and 1:30pm–5:30pm |
| Wednesday | 8:30am–5:30pm | 8:00am–12:45pm and 1:30pm–5:30pm |
| Thursday | 8:30am–6:30pm | 8:00am–12:45pm and 1:30pm–5:30pm |
| Friday | 8:30am–5:30pm | 8:00am–12:45pm and 1:30pm–5:30pm |
| Saturday | Closed | Closed |
| Sunday | Closed | Closed |
A similar “doors versus phone hours” distinction appears at other Scottish practices. Our Whinpark Medical Centre hours and doctors guide shows why checking exactly what an opening time refers to can prevent a wasted journey.
How to Request an On-the-Day GP Appointment
Primrose Lane’s current appointment model is still primarily telephone based. The practice changed this system in July 2024 and continued to publish the arrangement on its news page reviewed in August 2026.
Call from 8am
For an on-the-day GP appointment, the practice tells patients to call 01383 414874 from 8am.
Have your identifying details ready
For an urgent problem during working hours, the practice asks callers to give reception their name, date of birth, address, contact number and the nature of the problem.
Understand the capacity rule
On-the-day GP appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The practice says it posts on its Facebook page when capacity for the day’s GP appointments has been reached.
Ask about a book-ahead slot if your problem is not urgent
Primrose Lane says it has a limited number of GP appointments that can be booked in advance within its extended-hours sessions.
Do not use NHS 24 as a substitute for a routine GP booking
NHS 24 is primarily the out-of-hours urgent-care route. Routine GP appointments should follow Primrose Lane’s own booking process.
Minor-Illness Triage Has Its Own 8am–12pm Window
Primrose Lane separates minor-illness triage from ordinary GP booking. The practice currently tells patients with a minor illness to call between 8:00am and 12 noon.
Call before noon
Calls received after 12 noon are normally asked to call again from 8am the following day.
Advanced Nurse Practitioner triage
The practice says minor-illness calls are handled by one of its Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
Pharmacy may be appropriate
The practice specifically mentions coughs, colds, sore throats and urine infections as examples that may sometimes be managed through community pharmacy services.
Current Doctors Listed by Primrose Lane Medical Centre
The practice staff page was last reviewed on 18 June 2026. It currently publishes the following GP doctors:
- Dr Colin Leslie
- Dr Matthew Sweeney
- Dr Mairi Bowlerwell
- Dr Richard McClelland
- Dr Callum Gillespie
- Dr Amy McClelland
- Dr Kathleen Beardon
- Dr Bernie Keenan
- Dr Rita Cornelius
- Dr Stevie Fong

The Wider Clinical Team Is Important Too
Not every problem needs a GP. Primrose Lane’s current team page lists Advanced Nurse Practitioners, practice nurses and a healthcare assistant alongside its doctors.
Advanced Nurse Practitioners
- Ruth Lamond
- Julie Leslie
- Chantal Jack
Practice Nurses
- Layla Smith
- Naomi Halliday
Healthcare Assistant
Catherine Dignan is currently listed by the practice.
The practice also says it shares community nursing and health visiting teams with Rosyth Health Centre.
Tuesday Morning and Thursday Evening Extended Hours
Primrose Lane’s appointment guidance says a limited number of advance-bookable GP appointments are offered in extended-hours surgeries.
The newer contact page shows the building opening at 7:00am on Tuesday.
The building is currently listed as open until 6:30pm on Thursday.
Nurse, Blood-Test, Midwife and Physio Appointments
Primrose Lane tells patients to call after 10am for appointment types other than the same-day GP and minor-illness routes.
The practice says nurse appointments can be booked up to six weeks ahead.
Blood-test appointments can also be booked up to six weeks ahead according to the practice appointment page.
Primrose Lane’s appointment update specifically mentions Practice Nurse, Phlebotomist, Midwife and First Contact Physio appointments among the services booked after 10am.
Patient Access Does Not Currently Provide Online GP Booking Here
Primrose Lane has a Patient Access page because its clinical system is supplied through EMIS, but the practice’s current online-services guidance contains an important warning: online appointment booking is currently unavailable.
The practice says most functions are currently switched off and it is not recommending Patient Access to patients at present.
Repeat prescriptions can technically be requested through Patient Access, but Primrose Lane says its own website repeat-prescription form is more reliable and flexible.
This Scotland-specific distinction is also important at other surgeries. Our Carolside Medical Centre online-access guide explains why Scottish GP booking, repeat-medication services and health-record access should not automatically be treated as one “NHS App” function.
Repeat Prescriptions: Written Requests and a 2-Day Practice Target
Primrose Lane says it accepts repeat-prescription requests using several written routes.
Online form
The practice provides its own repeat-prescription request route.
Foyer box
Use the repeat slip or a prescription-request form available at the surgery.
Pharmacy
Your local pharmacy can request the prescription, although the practice says to allow extra time.
Post
Written requests can also be posted to the surgery.
Primrose Lane says it made a decision to accept written repeat requests to improve accuracy and patient safety. If a prescription is requested urgently, read the practice’s current collection instructions carefully because urgent items may need to be collected from the surgery rather than automatically sent to a pharmacy.
Test Results: Call Between 2pm and 5pm
Primrose Lane’s current appointment-system notice gives a specific window for result enquiries: 2:00pm–5:00pm.
Home Visits: Call Before 10am Where Possible
Primrose Lane encourages patients to attend the surgery when they are medically able because the practice has better examination equipment and facilities there.
- Request a home visit before 10am where possible.
- Home visits are intended for patients who are housebound or too unwell to attend the practice.
- Be ready to explain the problem so the GP can decide whether a visit is necessary and how urgently it is needed.
- Community nurses may visit at home after GP referral.
Fit Notes: Do Not Leave a Repeat Request Until the Last Minute
For a repeat medical certificate or fit-note request, the practice says reception passes the request to the patient’s usual doctor.
Because these requests are dealt with around clinical surgeries and doctor availability, Primrose Lane asks patients to allow at least seven working days.
Registering With Primrose Lane: Check That Rosyth Is in Your Practice Area
Primrose Lane’s website includes a dedicated New Patients section, while the current NHS 24 directory gives an important Scotland-wide warning: a GP result appearing in a postcode search does not automatically mean your address is served by that practice.
Check the practice before relying on distance alone
Primrose Lane is based in Rosyth, but GP practice boundaries can determine whether your address is covered.
Use the practice’s New Patients route
Start from Primrose Lane Medical Centre’s New Patients page or contact reception for the current registration instructions.
Follow the current forms supplied by the practice
Registration processes can change, so use the documents and identification instructions given by the surgery rather than an old downloadable form from another site.
If Primrose Lane does not cover you, search again
Use an official Scotland GP directory to find practices that may serve your address, then confirm directly before applying.
Our UK GP surgery and medical-centre finder guide explains the separate Scotland route and why the nearest pin on a map is not enough to confirm registration eligibility.
Primrose Lane Is a GP Training Practice
The practice trains General Practice Specialist Trainees—qualified doctors undertaking further specialist training in general practice.
The practice says some trainee consultations may be recorded for education. Patients are asked for consent before recording and can refuse or ask for the camera to be switched off.
Primrose Lane hosts ScotGEM medical students from the University of St Andrews. The practice says patients are told in advance and their permission is requested before a student remains in the consultation.
Some Services Have Separate NHS Fife Routes
Primrose Lane’s services pages show why it is important not to assume every healthcare request is handled directly by the GP partnership.
Travel health
Primrose Lane states that it does not provide specialist or private travel-health services and directs patients toward pharmacy or specialist travel services for advice beyond the limited NHS provision.
Weight-management medicines
The practice says NHS Fife had not yet implemented a pathway allowing it to accept general enquiries for GLP-1 weight-loss prescribing through the practice.
NHS Fife clinics in the building
NHS Fife used Primrose Lane Medical Centre as a venue for open-access vaccination clinics during 2026. Those sessions are NHS Fife clinics and should not be confused with normal GP appointment availability.
Why “Primrose Lane” Medical Centre Has a Jutland Street Address
This can look like an address error if you do not know the local history.
The practice traces its Rosyth roots back to 1922. A new medical-centre building opened at Primrose Lane in June 2000, when the former Rosyth Surgery adopted the Primrose Lane Medical Centre name.
A later housing development changed access to the site, and in 2007 the practice address became Jutland Street. The team chose to retain the Primrose Lane Medical Centre name.
Why You Will Not Find a CQC Rating for This Scottish GP Practice
Primrose Lane is in Fife, Scotland. CQC regulates health and social-care services in England, so an English-style CQC GP rating should not be attached to this practice.
For current practical patient information, the useful public sources here are Primrose Lane’s own practice website, NHS Fife and the NHS 24 Scotland service directory.
