Searched for eConsult? Blackwater now uses Accurx
The most useful correction for Blackwater patients is simple: the practice announced that eConsult would be replaced by Accurx from 1 April 2025. That means an old eConsult search result is no longer the safest place to start.
Use this page to work out whether you need Accurx, reception, the NHS App, the dispensary, test-results line, the Heybridge branch or an out-of-hours NHS service.
eConsult Is an Old Route: Start With Accurx Instead
Search results can lag behind practice changes. Blackwater’s own update says eConsult was replaced by Accurx on 1 April 2025 after local ICB funding for eConsult ended.
If you searched “eConsult”
Do not rely on an old eConsult bookmark or a third-party link. Start from Blackwater Medical Centre’s current website so the practice can direct you to its live online route.
How Accurx is described
Blackwater says requests arrive through a structured form, enter a shared inbox integrated with the clinical system, and are then triaged and signposted by the surgery team according to clinical need.
The NHS App still has a role
The practice says the NHS App remains available. It can also support tasks such as prescriptions, records and supported appointment functions where enabled.
If you are comparing online GP systems in Essex, our Abbey Field Medical Centre Accurx guide explains another practice where patients may still search for “eConsult” even though the current online route is Accurx.
How GP Appointments Work at Blackwater
Blackwater does not rely on one appointment channel. Its current appointment guidance lists pre-bookable, online, telephone and nurse-triage options.
| Appointment route | What Blackwater publishes | What the patient should do |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-bookable appointment | Appointments may be pre-booked up to four weeks ahead with GPs, practice nurses, healthcare assistants and clinical pharmacists. | Ask which clinician type is appropriate when arranging the booking. |
| Online appointment | The practice supports online appointment access and has moved its online request route from eConsult to Accurx. | Start from the official Blackwater website rather than an old supplier link. |
| Telephone appointment | Telephone slots can be arranged through reception. | Call 01621 876760 and explain that you need telephone rather than face-to-face access. |
| Nurse triage | Nurse triage and telephone-triage slots are listed for suitable clinics or advice. | Contact reception so the practice can place you into the correct nurse route. |
Phone queue and call-back
Blackwater says its telephone system can offer a call-back while retaining your place in the queue. The practice also warns that call volume is particularly high between 08:00 and 11:00.
If your issue is not urgent, calling outside that morning peak may be more practical. A place in the telephone queue does not guarantee an appointment.
When booking online yourself
- Say whether you need face-to-face or telephone contact.
- Add the phone number to use if the booking is for a telephone appointment.
- Be clear about the main problem so the request can be routed properly.
- Do not use ordinary online appointment slots for medication reviews, routine diabetic or asthma reviews or blood-test requests where the practice provides another route.
- Use cervical-smear slots only for the appointment type they are labelled for.
How to Check or Cancel an Appointment Without Waiting for Reception
Blackwater introduced an automated telephone feature in 2026 that allows patients to check existing appointments and cancel an unwanted booking through the clinical system.
Call the main number
Ring 01621 876760.
Choose option 2
Blackwater’s April 2026 notice says option 2 opens the automated appointment-checking and cancellation service.
Confirm your identity
The system asks for your date of birth as eight digits, using the format demonstrated by the practice.
Listen to the appointments
The system lists current appointments in date and time order.
Select the appointment to cancel
Follow the telephone prompt for the booking you no longer need.
Blackwater’s appointment page also provides an online cancellation form for appointments arranged more than 24 hours in advance, excluding weekends and public holidays, and says patients may use text cancellation where available.
Reception and Dispensary Hours Are Different
One of the easiest mistakes is assuming that reception hours and dispensary-query hours are the same.
| Service | Current published time | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Reception | Monday–Friday, 08:00–18:30 | General reception and practice contact during normal weekday hours. |
| On-the-day booking | Not before 08:00 | The opening-hours page specifically says reception does not book on-the-day appointments before 08:00. |
| Dispensary counter | Weekdays from 08:30, with a lunch closure between 13:00 and 14:00 | Do not assume medication queries can be handled continuously throughout reception opening hours. |
| Dispensary phone query | Option 3, 14:00–17:00 Monday–Friday | Use the dispensary rather than ordinary reception for medication queries. |
| Out of hours | From 18:30 to 08:00 on weekdays and through the weekend | Use NHS 111 for urgent non-emergency help when the surgery is closed. |
Another Maldon practice may use different online and extended-hours arrangements. If you are comparing local GP routes, see the Longfield Medical Centre Maldon guide rather than assuming the two Princes Road surgeries work in the same way.
Repeat Prescriptions: Do Not Phone Reception to Order Routine Medication
Blackwater’s prescription guidance is unusually clear: routine repeat medication cannot be ordered by telephone. The practice publishes several other request methods.
The practice promotes the NHS App for repeat-prescription requests.
Registered online-service users can request repeat medication through SystmOnline.
Blackwater also lists the repeat-request box outside the surgery, post, and the prescription email prescriptions.f81099@nhs.net.
Medication query rather than a new order?
A January 2026 practice update asks patients not to contact ordinary reception about dispensary or medication enquiries, except for arranging medication-review appointments.
Call 01621 876760 and choose option 3 for the dispensary query line, currently published as available from 14:00–17:00 Monday to Friday.
How to Get Test Results Without Calling the Wrong Team
Blackwater publishes a specific telephone window for results: Monday to Friday, 10:00–13:00, using the main number and choosing option 4.
Tests requested through the GP practice
Use the practice results route when the investigation was requested and returned to Blackwater.
Tests requested by a hospital consultant
Blackwater warns that results requested by a hospital consultant do not necessarily return to the GP surgery. In that situation, the consultant’s team may be the correct place to ask.
Registering With Blackwater: The Practice Publishes Its Boundary Clearly
Blackwater says it is welcoming new patients and uses the NHS Register with a GP surgery service. Its homepage asks patients to use the registration route on the practice website rather than trying to register through the NHS App.
Open the official Join the Practice page
Review Blackwater’s current registration information and practice-area list before completing the form.
Check whether your address is inside the normal practice area
The practice publishes named areas and also provides a postcode boundary checker.
Complete the NHS registration form
Blackwater says the NHS-run online registration service can be used to get started. Paper forms remain available for patients who need them.
Do not assume ID is required for basic GP registration
The practice says patients do not need proof of address, immigration status, ID or an NHS number simply to register. Additional identity checks may be required for certain online-access features.
Tell the practice about repeat medication
Blackwater asks new patients with repeat medicines to tell the surgery and to make sure they have enough medication from their former practice while registration is being completed.

The practice states that wheelchair access is available through the front entrance.
Accessible toilet
Blackwater lists toilet facilities suitable for disabled patients.
Parking is limited
Patient parking is limited to designated spaces. The practice also points to public parking off Maldon High Street.
Selected Services Currently Published by Blackwater
The practice homepage reviewed in September 2026 lists a broader range of services than a basic GP directory entry would show.
Long-term condition care
Diabetes, asthma and COPD clinics, blood-pressure and heart-disease care, and chronic-disease management are listed.
Preventive and routine care
Vaccinations, travel-health services and men’s and women’s health services are included on the practice’s current service summary.
Procedural services
Blackwater lists minor surgery, joint injections and dermatology services including dermoscopy, punch biopsy and cryotherapy.
Nearby Essex practices do not necessarily use the same access model. Our Tiptree Medical Centre Anima guide is a useful example of why patients should verify the online system used by their own surgery rather than assuming every Essex GP uses Accurx.

When the Usual Route Does Not Work
| Problem | Likely reason | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| An old eConsult link appears in search | Blackwater replaced eConsult with Accurx | Return to the current Blackwater website and use its live online route. |
| Morning phone queue is long | The practice says 08:00–11:00 is its high-call-volume period | Use call-back where offered or, for non-urgent admin, consider calling later. |
| Medication query is going through ordinary reception | Dispensary questions have a separate route | Call 01621 876760 and use option 3 during the published query time. |
| Hospital blood-test result is not visible at the GP | Consultant-requested results may not return to Blackwater | Contact the hospital consultant’s team if they requested the investigation. |
| Registration address is outside the usual boundary | You live outside the areas Blackwater normally covers | Ask the practice whether out-of-area registration is appropriate, remembering that home visits and dispensary deliveries are not available outside the listed area. |
| Appointment confirmation names Heybridge | Blackwater operates a branch at Goldring House | Follow the address in the booking rather than automatically travelling to Princes Road. |
If the Surgery Is Closed
Use the practice’s normal route when it reopens or the appropriate online/admin service if available.
Use NHS 111 online or call 111.
Call 999 rather than waiting for a GP callback or online form.
