Can you walk in — or should you contact reception first?
If you need GP help today, simply arriving at Scartho Medical Centre and expecting to see a doctor without assessment is not the safest assumption.
SLC Medical Group says patients can contact the practice by phone, online services or in person. It also reserves some GP capacity for urgent cases on the day and assesses same-day requests where appropriate. That is different from advertising a guaranteed walk-in GP clinic.
If You Need GP Help Today, Start Here
SLC’s current appointment information is more useful than the vague phrase “walk-in”. It tells you how the practice actually handles urgent and routine requests.
Contact the practice. Some GP capacity is reserved for urgent cases on the day.
Call reception or visit in person. The practice says staff will assist patients who cannot use the online route.
Use NHS 111 for urgent, non-life-threatening help that cannot wait for normal GP access.
Call 999. Do not wait at GP reception for emergency assessment.
For another Lincolnshire example showing why an “on-the-day” route is not the same as a guaranteed walk-in consultation, our Millview Medical Centre same-day GP guide explains a different local triage model.
Is Scartho Medical Centre a Walk-In GP Clinic?
You can attend reception
SLC’s opening-hours guidance says patients can contact the practice in person between 8:00am and 6:30pm on weekdays.
Visiting reception can be useful if you cannot use the online service or need help choosing the right route.
It does not promise instant GP assessment
The official practice pages do not describe Scartho as a general walk-in GP clinic where everyone arriving without an appointment automatically sees a doctor.
Urgent care is care-navigated
Reception may route a request to a GP, advanced nurse practitioner, nurse, healthcare assistant, pharmacist or another community provider.
This distinction appears at other NHS practices too. Our Beechfield Medical Centre same-day help guide shows another Lincolnshire practice where same-day access begins with a defined practice route rather than an assumption of instant walk-in care.
Use the Current SLC Phone Number — Older Listings Still Appear Online
This is one of the most useful details to check before calling, because several official-looking historical numbers can appear in search results.
SLC Medical Group currently publishes this number on its homepage, contact page, appointments page and opening-hours page.
Why might you see another number?
The current CQC SLC Medical Group record still displays 01472 279500.
A separate archived CQC listing for “Scartho Medical Centre” under Meridian Health Group shows 01472 722000 and was archived on 16 March 2020.
How GP Appointments Are Routed
SLC describes a mixed appointment model rather than a single queue. Understanding that model makes it easier to ask for the right help.
Contact the practice with the main reason for your request
Use the current practice route by telephone, online service or reception during normal opening hours.
Reception care-navigates the request
SLC says reception may direct patients to a GP, advanced nurse practitioner, nurse, healthcare assistant, pharmacist or another suitable community provider.
Urgent requests can use on-the-day capacity
The practice says some GP appointments are reserved for urgent cases on the day. This does not guarantee that every urgent request results in a face-to-face GP appointment.
Routine GP slots can be available in advance
SLC says a limited number of GP appointments can be booked up to 14 days in advance.
Nursing and HCA appointments have their own availability
The practice says nursing or healthcare-assistant appointments, including appointments for chronic-disease checks, injections or blood tests, can be booked up to 14 days ahead.
SLC says its GP appointment mix includes both telephone and face-to-face consultations.
Depending on the request, reception may direct a patient towards a locally available pharmacy minor-ailment route rather than automatically booking a GP.
Core Opening Hours and Extended Access Are Different
| Day | Core practice contact hours | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Phone, online-service or in-person contact is published. |
| Tuesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Same-day requests are assessed where appropriate. |
| Wednesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Use current practice notices for temporary changes. |
| Thursday | 8:00am–6:30pm | In-person reception contact is not a guaranteed walk-in consultation. |
| Friday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Check bank-holiday arrangements before a special journey. |
| Saturday | Closed | Pre-booked extended-access appointments may operate at an SLC site. |
| Sunday | Closed | Use NHS 111 for urgent non-emergency help that cannot wait. |
Extended Access
SLC publishes extended-access appointments between 6:30pm and 8:00pm in the evening and 9:00am–5:00pm on Saturdays.
Home Visit Requests: The Practice Publishes a Specific Time Window
SLC says home visits are at a doctor’s discretion and are generally intended for medical reasons such as patients who are housebound or seriously ill.
Request by phone
The practice asks patients to telephone when requesting a home visit.
Published request window
Its appointment page asks for routine home-visit requests between 08:30 and 10:00.
Not an automatic service
A home visit is considered by the doctor; contacting reception does not itself guarantee that a visit will be made.
Repeat Prescriptions: Five Ordering Methods and a Two-Working-Day Rule
The prescription page is unusually clear about the available methods, so patients do not need to assume telephone ordering is the only option.
Online
SLC provides an online repeat-prescription route from its official prescription page.
Prescription email
The practice publishes scartho.prescriptions@nhs.net as its prescription-only email address.
Telephone, post or in person
SLC also lists telephone, postal and in-person ordering methods.
SLC says patients should use the information on their prescription counterfoil when ordering. It also supports the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), allowing an issued prescription to be sent electronically to a nominated pharmacy.
Registering at the Scartho Site
SLC publishes a defined practice area rather than simply saying “Grimsby”. Its registration page says it accepts patients living in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Humberston, Waltham and New Waltham, subject to the practice’s current registration arrangements.
Check that your address is in the practice area
Do this before completing forms. SLC says eligibility can be confirmed from the patient’s address.
Choose Scartho on the official registration page
SLC’s registration page has separate online routes for Chantry, Lynton and Scartho. Use the Scartho option if this is the site you intend to join.
Complete the registration information
The practice publishes a GMS1 registration form and health questionnaire route while it waits for records from the previous GP.
Be aware of the practice’s waiting-list wording
SLC says there may be a waiting list for new patients who already have a GP locally because priority may be given to people without local GP services.
Follow any health-check invitation
SLC says new patients aged 12 and over are offered a health check with a member of the healthcare team.
If your address is outside SLC’s area or you are choosing between surgeries, our NHS GP and medical-centre finder guide explains how to search by postcode and confirm that a practice actually covers your address before applying.
SLC Asks for ID and Address Evidence — NHS National Guidance Adds an Important Qualification
SLC’s own registration page currently asks for a recent utility bill to confirm address and one form of photographic ID.
Current NHS England and NHS.uk guidance is broader: there is no regulatory requirement to have ID, proof of address, proof of immigration status or an NHS number simply to register with a GP in England.
What the SLC page asks patients to bring
- Recent utility bill for address evidence.
- One form of photographic ID.
- Registration form and health questionnaire.
What NHS national policy says
A practice may request documentation for practical reasons, such as matching records or checking an address, but inability to produce identity or residence documents should not by itself prevent an eligible patient from applying to register.
Temporary Registration if You Are Staying in the Area
SLC’s registration page says temporary registration may be used for up to three months when someone is living away from home but wants to remain registered with their permanent GP.
The page also says a person whose temporary-registration application is not accepted can still receive immediately necessary treatment for up to 14 days. Contact the practice directly if you are visiting Grimsby and need to understand which registration route applies to you.

When Scartho Is Closed: NHS 111, 999 and Grimsby A&E
| Situation | First route | Local point to remember |
|---|---|---|
| Routine GP request | Contact SLC when open | Core weekday contact hours are 8:00am–6:30pm. |
| Urgent, not life-threatening, GP closed | NHS 111 online or call 111 | 111 can direct you to the appropriate local NHS service. |

CQC: Use the Active SLC Record, Not the Archived Scartho Listing
The current active CQC location at Springfield Road is SLC Medical Group, location ID 1-544513840.
Current displayed rating
CQC currently displays an overall rating of Good.
Inspection date
CQC lists the latest inspection as 30 October 2019, with the report published on 13 December 2019.
Later information review
CQC reviewed available information on 6 July 2023 and said it had not found evidence requiring the rating to be reassessed at that stage.
Why an archived “Scartho Medical Centre” CQC result can cause confusion
CQC also has an older page named Scartho Medical Centre that was operated by Meridian Health Group Limited. That service was archived on 16 March 2020.
Its old telephone number should not be used as the current SLC patient contact route.
NHS Organisation Code B81030 Helps Confirm the Current Practice
The NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit identifies SLC Medical Group as organisation B81030, with the address recorded as Scartho Medical Practice, Springfield Road, Grimsby, DN33 3JF.
It categorises the organisation’s primary sector as General Practice (GP). This is useful when search results contain similar or historical Scartho names.
Before You Travel to Springfield Road
- Confirm that your appointment says Scartho, especially if it is an extended-access evening or Saturday appointment.
- Do not assume “in-person contact” means you can arrive and automatically see a GP without care navigation.
- Save the current SLC Scartho number: 01472 897242.
- If you found 01472 279500 or 01472 722000 in an older listing, re-check against SLC’s live website before calling.
- For repeat prescriptions, allow the practice’s published two-working-day processing period and additional pharmacy time where necessary.
- If your appointment is at another SLC site, do not travel to Springfield Road simply because Scartho is the address you normally use.

You can contact reception in person during core opening hours, but the official SLC information does not promise a walk-in GP consultation without assessment.

Scartho Patient Questions Answered
Is Scartho Medical Centre a walk-in GP clinic?
SLC says patients can contact the practice in person during weekday opening hours, but it does not publish Scartho as a guaranteed no-appointment walk-in GP clinic. Visiting reception can help you access the correct route, while GP care is handled through care navigation, appointments and clinical triage.
How do I ask Scartho for urgent same-day GP help?
Contact SLC Medical Group during opening hours and explain that the request needs attention today. The practice says some GP appointments are reserved for urgent cases on the day and same-day requests are assessed where appropriate.
What phone number should I use for Scartho Medical Centre?
The current SLC Medical Group website lists 01472 897242 for Scartho Medical Centre. Older CQC pages can show different historic contact numbers, so use the current provider website for patient contact.
What are Scartho Medical Centre’s core opening hours?
SLC currently publishes core contact hours of 8:00am–6:30pm Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday closed. Patients can contact the practice by phone, online services or in person during those weekday hours.
Can I walk in during Scartho’s evening or Saturday extended-access hours?
No walk-in extended-access service is advertised. SLC says evening appointments between 6:30pm and 8:00pm and Saturday appointments between 9:00am and 5:00pm are appointment-only, booked through reception, and the location can vary between Scartho, Lynton and Chantry.
How far ahead can I book an appointment at SLC Medical Group?
SLC says a limited number of GP appointments are available up to 14 days in advance, while some capacity is reserved for urgent cases on the day. Nursing and healthcare-assistant appointments are also described as bookable up to 14 days ahead.
Which areas does SLC list for new-patient registration?
The registration page says SLC accepts patients living in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Humberston, Waltham and New Waltham, subject to its current registration arrangements and practice-area checks.
Do I need photo ID and a utility bill to register at Scartho?
SLC’s own registration page asks for a recent utility bill and photographic ID. However, current NHS guidance says there is no regulatory requirement to provide ID, proof of address, proof of immigration status or an NHS number simply to register with a GP in England. If you cannot provide SLC’s requested documents, contact the practice rather than assuming you cannot apply.
How long does Scartho take to process a repeat prescription request?
SLC asks patients to allow two working days for the practice to process a standard repeat-prescription request. This is GP-practice processing time and does not necessarily include the time a pharmacy needs to dispense the medicine.
What should I do if Scartho Medical Centre is closed and I need urgent care?
For urgent medical help that is not life-threatening, use NHS 111 online or call 111. For a life-threatening emergency call 999. Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital has a 24-hour Emergency Department, and the hospital trust asks people not to simply walk into A&E for non-life-threatening problems.
