Need a GP today? Start with triage, not the old phone-booking route
Long Furlong’s appointment system is built around AccuRx Patient Triage. GP requests are submitted online, reviewed by the duty doctor and then matched to the right timeframe, clinician and consultation method.
The phrase “same-day slot” needs one important qualification: if the duty doctor decides your condition needs assessment that day, the practice says it will either arrange a same-day appointment or direct you to another appropriate service. It is not a first-come, guaranteed same-day booking queue.
Do Not Use the Same Route for Every Patient Task
Long Furlong’s current system separates GP triage from nurse appointments, medication requests, test-result access and routine administrative work.
HELP GP appointment
Submit one medical issue through AccuRx.
HCA Nurse or HCA
These can still be booked through the normal practice route.
Use the practice’s prescription or online-service route.
AccuRx includes an administrative-query option.
| Need | Best first route | What the practice currently says |
|---|---|---|
| GP medical problem | AccuRx Patient Triage | GP appointment requests should no longer normally be booked directly by telephone. |
| Cannot complete online form | Patient Services | Staff can complete the form with patients who have accessibility or digital-access difficulties. |
| Nurse / healthcare assistant | Normal booking route | Nurse and HCA appointments are not moved entirely into GP triage. |
| Fit note or routine admin | AccuRx admin query | The practice asks patients to use the admin option instead of routine email. |
| Urgent when surgery is closed | NHS 111 | Out-of-hours urgent care is accessed through 111. |
If you want to compare another Oxfordshire practice using an online-first GP pathway, our Woodlands Medical Centre Didcot appointment guide shows why two nearby GP surgeries can both use digital triage but have different form hours and response rules.
How to Request a GP Appointment Through AccuRx
Open Long Furlong’s official appointment page
Go to Long Furlong Medical Centre appointments and use the current Submit a new request option.
Use it during the published form window
The practice says its AccuRx triage form is available through the website between 8:00am and 4:00pm.
Daily clinical capacity can be reached before 4:00pm, so the form is not guaranteed to remain open for the full window.
Prepare the wording before you open the form
Long Furlong notes that the triage form stays open for about 10 minutes to complete. Preparing a short, clear description first can make the submission easier.
Submit one medical issue per form
The practice specifically asks patients to send one medical problem per triage form so there is enough space to explain each issue properly.
Include information useful for triage
Explain what the problem is, when it started, whether it is getting worse, anything you have already tried and the best number for the practice to contact you on.
Wait for the clinical response
Requests are reviewed by the duty doctor. The practice says the result may be the right clinician, right timeframe and right consultation method — including face-to-face or telephone care where appropriate.
What “Same-Day Slot” Actually Means at Long Furlong
Same-day care is based on clinical need after triage, not simply on how early a patient asks for an appointment.
Submit the request
Give the duty doctor enough information to decide whether the problem needs assessment today.
Clinical triage
Long Furlong says every GP appointment request is reviewed by the duty doctor.
If same-day assessment is needed
The practice says the patient will be booked that day or directed to an appropriate service.
For another explanation of the difference between same-day assessment and guaranteed walk-in treatment, see our Strawberry Hill Medical Centre same-day GP guide .
What if the AccuRx Form Has Already Closed?
Long Furlong says the online form can close when the practice has reached the number of requests it can safely review that day. When that happens, the form remains closed until the next working day.
The practice says patients may be asked to complete a new online request on the following working day.
Contact the Patient Services Team so they can signpost you to the appropriate route. If the surgery is closed, use NHS 111 when appropriate.
What Happens After You Submit a Medical Query?
The practice says medical queries go to its GP-led triage team.
- A team member should respond within 2 working days.
- Contact the surgery if you have not received a response within that published timeframe.
- Conditions needing same-day assessment are prioritised.
- The team may ask you to provide further information before deciding the next step.
- The eventual route may be face-to-face, telephone or another service that is better suited to the problem.
Nurse and Healthcare Assistant Appointments Still Use the Normal Booking Route
One of the easiest mistakes is assuming that every appointment now has to go through AccuRx.
Long Furlong explicitly says appointments with its nurse or healthcare assistant can still be booked in the normal way.
Opening Hours and the 8:00–8:30am Phone Difference
Long Furlong’s published opening information separates the building/opening period from the time its Patient Services Team handles routine appointment and enquiry calls.
| Day | Practice opening | Routine Patient Services | Important note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 8:00am–6:30pm | 8:30am–6:30pm | 8:00–8:30am is emergency-only telephone cover. |
| Tuesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | 8:30am–6:30pm | AccuRx is published as opening at 8:00am. |
| Wednesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | 8:30am–6:30pm | Staff training closures can alter routine access. |
| Thursday | 8:00am–6:30pm | 8:30am–6:30pm | Use the live practice page for temporary changes. |
| Friday | 8:00am–6:30pm | 8:30am–6:30pm | Plan repeat medicine before weekend closure. |
| Saturday | Closed | Closed | Use appropriate out-of-hours NHS care if needed. |
| Sunday | Closed | Closed | NHS 111 for urgent non-life-threatening problems. |
New Patient Registration and the Practice-Area Check
The NHS profile currently says Long Furlong Medical Centre is accepting new patients. The practice’s own new-patient page also says its lists are open.
Check that you live in the practice area
Long Furlong says it provides GP services for residents within its defined practice boundary.
Use the current new-patient route
Open Long Furlong’s New Patients page and follow the registration instructions currently shown.
Do not assume the online form itself means registration is complete
The practice registration form says submitting it does not automatically register you or guarantee acceptance. Follow the completion steps issued by the surgery.
Know the national NHS document rule
Long Furlong’s local registration copy asks patients to bring identification and proof of address. National NHS guidance says patients in England do not normally need ID, proof of address, immigration status or an NHS number simply to register with a GP.
If documents are difficult for you to provide, ask the practice to apply current NHS registration guidance rather than abandoning the application.
If your address is outside Long Furlong’s boundary, our NHS GP surgery finder and registration guide explains how to search by postcode and check another practice.
Repeat Prescriptions: Allow Three Normal Working Days
Long Furlong currently publishes several ways to request repeat medication.
| Method | Published route | Patient tip |
|---|---|---|
| Online clinical-system access | Yes | Requires practice-generated online login details where applicable. |
| Patient Access | Yes | Another current practice-listed online option. |
| Repeat prescription slip | Yes | Hand the completed request to reception or use the practice letterbox. |
| Foyer request form | Yes | Useful if you do not use online prescription services. |
Long Furlong also says local pharmacists may provide medication delivery for housebound patients. If your normal medicine is delivered, note that when using the relevant online prescription route.
How to Check Test Results Without Calling at the Wrong Time
The practice says the clinician who arranges your test should tell you when the result is expected.
Long Furlong says test results can be accessed through its online services where your account has the relevant access.
Reception-result calls are published for 3:00pm–6:00pm.
Private Tests and Hospital Blood Tests Have Specific 2026 Rules
These are the kinds of local details that can save an unnecessary appointment or repeat journey.
Tests arranged outside Long Furlong
A practice notice published 17 September 2026 says that if a test was arranged by a private provider, overseas service or another clinician outside the practice, the person who ordered it is responsible for interpretation and follow-up.
Long Furlong may consider externally arranged results if they are relevant to an assessment, but it asks patients not to simply send outside results expecting the GP to interpret them.
Blood test requested by a hospital
The current practice homepage says it can take a hospital-requested blood test only when the hospital has supplied the required request form or labels.
Without that paperwork, the practice tells patients to contact the requesting hospital department and rebook once the correct documentation is available.
NHS App, Patient Access and AccuRx Are Not Interchangeable
AccuRx
Current primary route for GP appointment triage and medical or administrative contact.
NHS App
The practice promotes NHS App functions such as appointment management, repeat prescriptions and secure record access where enabled.
Practice online services
Long Furlong also provides online-service registration for repeat prescriptions, appointments and medical-record functions.
If you need a fuller explanation of how NHS App appointment and record access differs from a surgery’s triage form, see our NHS App booking and medical-record guide .
Parking, Wheelchair Access and Communication Support
Long Furlong’s own site publishes practical access information rather than leaving patients to rely on an old directory listing.
Parking
The medical centre has its own car park and a designated disabled parking bay.
If the car park is full, the practice points to considerate on-street parking around Boulter Drive or a public car park described as about a two-minute walk away.
Wheelchair access
The practice lists wheelchair access to patient areas, including waiting, consulting and toilet areas, and ramps at the main entrance.
Communication support
A hearing loop is listed at reception. The practice asks patients to tell it if they need BSL, large print, easy-read material, an advocate or another communication adjustment.
CQC: The Current Rating Is Good, but the Inspection Date Matters
CQC lists Long Furlong Medical Partnership, also known as Long Furlong Medical Centre, at the same Loyd Close address and currently displays Overall: Good.
Comprehensive inspection
CQC carried out the inspection on 31 May 2017 and published the Good-rated report on 3 July 2017.
Later data review
CQC reviewed available information on 6 July 2023 and said it had not found evidence requiring a new inspection or rating reassessment at that stage.
Not a patient-review star score
A CQC regulatory rating is not converted into Review or AggregateRating structured data on this page.
Common Problems and What to Do Next
| Problem | Likely reason | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| You called to book a GP appointment | You are using the older booking model | Use the AccuRx triage form; Patient Services can assist if you cannot complete it. |
| AccuRx is closed before 4pm | Daily clinical-review capacity may have been reached | For non-urgent issues use the next working day’s form. For urgent issues contact Patient Services for signposting. |
| You submitted more than one medical problem | The practice asks for one issue per form | Use a separate triage request so each problem has enough detail. |
| No response after two working days | The response has exceeded the practice’s published target | Contact the surgery as the appointment page advises. |
| You want a nurse appointment | Nurse/HCA booking remains separate from GP triage | Contact the practice through the normal booking route. |
| Hospital asked Long Furlong to take blood | Correct labels or request paperwork may be missing | Obtain the hospital’s request form or labels before rebooking. |
| You want the GP to interpret a private test | The test was ordered by another provider | Return to the clinician/provider who ordered the test for interpretation and follow-up. |
| Urgent issue when surgery is closed | Routine GP channels are unavailable | Use NHS 111 for urgent non-life-threatening help; use 999 for a life-threatening emergency. |
