Online GP, NHS App or phone? Start with the right route
Colindale patients have several ways to deal with appointments, prescriptions, test results and admin requests, but those routes are not interchangeable.
The most useful 2026 correction is this: if you searched for a Colindale Medical Centre “eConsult”, the current official appointment page actually links its secure GP form to AccuRx. You do not need to hunt for a separate eConsult page before asking the practice for help.
If You Searched for “eConsult”, Use the Current AccuRx Route
“eConsult” is still a common search phrase for contacting a GP online, but it should not be treated as the name of every surgery’s current system.
Colindale Medical Centre’s current Appointments page links its secure online GP form to an AccuRx NHS patient form. The practice also uses AccuRx for online complaints and feedback.
Use the practice-linked secure online form for GP requests, questions, follow-up and supported administrative tasks.
APP Account-based tasks
Use your NHS account for supported repeat prescriptions, results, records, appointments and vaccination information.
Call when you cannot use the online form, need reception help or need to confirm an arrangement before travelling.
If you want another London example of how AccuRx triage differs from NHS App or Patient Access functions, see our Woolstone Medical Centre AccuRx and Patient Access guide .
How to Send an Online GP Request
Colindale’s online form can be used to tell the practice about a health problem, ask a question or follow up about an existing issue. The official page also says it can be used on behalf of someone you care for.
Start from the practice appointment page
Open the official Colindale Medical Centre appointments page and use its online-form link.
Follow the AccuRx questions
Enter the information requested by the secure form. Keep clinical details inside that official system rather than sending them through an unrelated directory or email address.
Submit and look for confirmation
The practice says an automated text or email is sent straight away to confirm receipt and tell you how quickly it expects to respond.
Follow the response you receive
Depending on the request, the medical team may respond with a face-to-face appointment, telephone call or a short text or email asking for more information.
If the form is difficult, contact reception
The practice explicitly says patients who find the online form difficult can call or visit the surgery. It also asks patients who need an interpreter to contact reception.
Appointment Details That Are Easy to Miss
Urgent and pre-bookable options
The practice says it offers a mix of same-day appointments for urgent needs and pre-bookable appointments, including telephone and face-to-face consultations.
One health issue per standard appointment
Colindale states that appointments are normally 10 minutes and asks patients to use one appointment for one health issue.
Cancel early if possible
If you cannot attend, the practice asks patients to try to give 24 hours’ notice so the slot can be offered to someone else.
Current Practice-Published Opening Hours
Colindale’s current Contact Us page publishes the following normal opening times.
| Day | Practice-published hours | Useful check |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 9:00am–6:30pm | The appointment page has a separate 1pm–2pm urgent-cover arrangement. |
| Tuesday | 9:00am–6:30pm | Extended GP telephone access may be available after 6:30pm. |
| Wednesday | 9:00am–6:30pm | Check current notices before a time-sensitive journey. |
| Thursday | 9:00am–6:30pm | Older CQC inspection material shows historic shorter Thursday hours. |
| Friday | 9:00am–6:30pm | Check bank-holiday arrangements when relevant. |
| Saturday | Closed | Barnet enhanced-access GP appointments operate separately. |
| Sunday | Closed | Use the appropriate out-of-hours route if care cannot wait. |
What Happens Between 1:00pm and 2:00pm?
There is a small but important difference between Colindale’s published opening table and its urgent-care wording.
The Contact Us page lists weekday opening as 9:00am–6:30pm. The Appointments page separately says that, between 1:00pm and 2:00pm Monday to Friday, an urgent problem that cannot wait until the surgery “re-opens at 2:00pm” can be routed through the main practice number to the lunchtime cover receptionist.
Evening and Weekend GP Access in Barnet
Colindale’s normal surgery hours and Barnet’s enhanced-access service are separate things.
Colindale states that extended GP telephone consultations are available Monday to Friday from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
Barnet Federated GPs provides enhanced access from 8:00am to 8:00pm on weekends and bank holidays.
The practice publishes 020 3948 6809 as the Barnet evening and weekend appointment call-centre number.
How to Register as a New Patient
The current NHS profile lists Colindale Medical Centre LP as accepting new patients. The practice also has its own online registration route and a catchment-area map.
Open the official registration page
Check your postcode against the practice boundary
The practice provides a catchment-area map and says patients can use the search control on the map to check whether their postcode falls inside the boundary.
Complete the online registration form
The practice says it is helpful to have your NHS number, although NHS guidance does not make having an NHS number a general requirement simply to register with a GP in England.
Allow the practice time to process it
Colindale says registration usually takes less than five days, although it can take longer during busy periods.
Follow up if you hear nothing
The practice asks patients to contact it if they have not heard back within 10 days.
If your postcode falls outside Colindale’s practice boundary, use our NHS GP and medical-centre finder guide to check another surgery before submitting multiple registrations.
Repeat Prescriptions: The Rules Are More Specific Than “Use the App”
Colindale publishes several repeat-prescription methods and one important restriction: routine repeat requests are not accepted over the phone.
| Method | Practice says you can use it? | Useful detail |
|---|---|---|
| NHS account / NHS App | Yes | Your repeat medicines and dosages can be shown in the account so you can select what you need. |
| Online form | Yes | Follow the official prescription route rather than sending medication requests through a random contact form. |
| Nominated pharmacy / chemist | Yes | The practice lists a nominated pharmacist or chemist as another request method. |
| Telephone repeat request | No | The practice explicitly says it does not take repeat prescription requests over the phone. |
Timing
- Colindale asks patients not to request repeat medicine earlier than one week before it is due to run out.
- The practice says it aims to have repeat prescriptions ready within 2–3 working days.
- Approved prescriptions are sent electronically to the nominated pharmacy through the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).
For another north-west London example of separating NHS App, prescription and practice-opening routes, see our Pinn Medical Centre repeat-prescription and NHS App guide .
Test Results: When to Use the NHS App and When to Contact Reception
Colindale says your doctor should advise how long a particular result is expected to take. Once the result has been reviewed, there are two main patient routes.
Use your NHS account through the NHS website or NHS App where the result is available to you.
Colindale says patients can phone or visit between 10:00am and 6:00pm to ask for reviewed results.
If you want to discuss a result rather than simply view it, the practice directs patients to submit an online consultation form.
Why Edgware Community Hospital may appear in your search
Colindale’s test-results page directs adults to Edgware Community Hospital for some blood-test appointments. That hospital is a separate healthcare site; it is not another name for Colindale Medical Centre.
What the NHS App Can Do for Colindale Patients
Colindale’s Online Services page separates tasks handled by its online consultation form from tasks available through an NHS account.
Online consultation form
- Request an appointment.
- Request a sick note.
- Ask about test results.
- Send an administrative request.
NHS account
- Order repeat prescriptions.
- View available test results.
- See parts of the health record.
- Check or cancel supported appointments.
- View vaccination information.
Proxy access for a child, relative or person you care for
Colindale says proxy access can be set up when both people are registered with the practice. The practice currently directs patients to submit an online consultation form or visit the surgery between 10:00am and 6:00pm.
Identification is required before the practice can link profiles in an NHS account.
You can compare that distinction with our Enderley Road Medical Centre NHS App and records guide , another north-west London patient guide where online account access and GP-request routes also need to be separated clearly.
Fit Notes and Other Administrative Requests
Colindale explains that an employer should normally use self-certification rather than asking the GP for medical evidence for the first seven days of illness.
The practice says a fit note can be requested through its online consultation form, or by phoning or visiting the surgery between 10:00am and 6:00pm.
Colindale Medical Centre Is Not at Edgware Community Hospital
This distinction matters because people often search combinations such as “Colindale Edgware Medical Centre”.
Colindale Medical Centre
GP practice at 61 Colindeep Lane, Colindale, London NW9 6DJ.
This is where the main practice reception, GP appointments and registration covered by this article are based.
Edgware Community Hospital
Separate healthcare site at Burnt Oak Broadway, Edgware HA8 0AD.
Colindale’s own website points patients there for services such as the Edgware NHS Walk-in Centre and some adult blood-test bookings.
Getting to the Surgery and Accessibility
Colindale Underground
The practice says Colindale Underground Station is about a 10-minute walk from the surgery.
Bus stop outside
The practice currently lists routes 142, 204, 324, 632, 642 and N5 as serving the bus stop outside.
Access features
Colindale lists disabled access, disabled toilet facilities and a hearing loop at reception.
Selected Clinics the Practice Currently Lists
These are examples from Colindale’s current clinic pages. They are included to show what the practice actually publishes, not to imply that every clinic can be booked directly without assessment.
Long-term condition support
The practice lists diabetes monitoring and asthma checks, with pharmacists, healthcare assistants, nurses and other clinicians involved depending on the clinic.
Screening and prevention
Current practice pages list cervical screening, child health checks, immunisations and new-patient health checks.
Practice nursing
Colindale lists immunisations, chronic-disease monitoring, health-promotion work and cervical smear appointments among its nursing services.
Family planning
The practice lists family-planning and sexual-health appointments and also publishes a direct self-referral route for local sexual health services.
Smoking cessation
Patients looking for help to stop smoking are directed to make an appointment with an appropriate clinician.
Travel vaccinations
The practice publishes a travel-vaccination clinic and asks patients to phone to arrange an appointment with a practice nurse.
How to Read the CQC Record
CQC identifies Colindale Medical Centre LP as the provider and GP-practice location at 61 Colindeep Lane. Its current profile displays an overall rating of Good.
Inspection report date
The currently displayed comprehensive report was published 14 August 2018.
Later information review
CQC records a later review of available information on 6 July 2023 and did not identify evidence at that point requiring the rating to be reassessed.
Regulator rating, not web reviews
CQC’s “Good” judgement is a regulatory rating. It is not converted into review stars or AggregateRating schema on this page.
CQC’s current legal-entitlement page lists regulated activities including maternity and midwifery services, treatment of disease, disorder or injury, surgical procedures, and diagnostic and screening procedures.
A 2026 Phone-System Notice on the Practice Homepage Needs Context
Colindale’s current homepage still carries a notice saying that an intelligent telephone assistant called EMMA was due to launch in May 2026 for appointment requests, prescription queries and routine enquiries.
Because the same page still uses future-launch wording even though it is now September 2026, this article does not treat that wording as proof of EMMA’s live operational status.
Common Problems and the Fastest Sensible Next Step
| Problem | What may be happening | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| You searched for eConsult but cannot find it | The current official online GP link is AccuRx | Start from the Colindale appointments page and use its secure online form. |
| The online form is difficult to use | Digital or accessibility barrier | Call or visit reception; the practice says staff can assist. |
| An old website says Thursday closes at 1pm | It may be repeating older CQC-era opening information | Use the practice’s current Contact Us page, which presently lists 9am–6:30pm Monday to Friday. |
| You need a repeat prescription by phone | Colindale does not accept routine repeat requests by telephone | Use NHS App/NHS account, the official online route or the nominated pharmacy method. |
| Registration has not been confirmed | Processing may take longer during a busy period | The practice says contact it if you have heard nothing within 10 days. |
| Your appointment says Edgware Community Hospital | You may be booked into a separate community service rather than the Colindale GP building | Follow the address on the booking instead of travelling automatically to Colindeep Lane. |
| You need urgent care outside normal hours | Routine GP channels are not the appropriate route | Use Barnet enhanced access where booked, NHS 111 for urgent non-emergency help, or 999 for a life-threatening emergency. |
