Need a GP today? Start with the right Moordown request before chasing a slot
Moordown changed how GP appointments are requested from 8 September 2025. Patients who want a GP appointment are now asked to complete the practice’s online request form rather than simply trying to secure a slot by repeatedly phoning.
There is no username or password requirement for the form. Choose Medical Request or Admin Request, enter your personal details accurately and submit the request. If digital access is difficult, reception can help with the same form.
How GP Booking Works Now
Moordown’s homepage says its GP appointment process changed from 8 September 2025. The current route is built around an online request form rather than a traditional “keep ringing until a slot appears” model.
Open the official Moordown website
Start from Moordown Medical Centre’s homepage and use the current New request or Online Consultation Requests option.
You do not need an account
The practice explicitly says the request form does not need a login or password. This is useful if you are not set up for full GP online services.
Choose Medical Request or Admin Request
Pick the option that matches what you actually need. A clinical problem and an administrative task are not routed in exactly the same way.
Enter your personal details carefully
Moordown warns that a GP request cannot be sent into the clinical workflow if the personal information is incorrect. That can result in the form being rejected and care being delayed.
Explain what you need clearly
Give the information requested by the form and submit it. If the issue genuinely needs attention today, make that clear without exaggerating or using emergency language for a routine problem.
If the form is difficult, call reception
Moordown says patients who are having difficulty completing the online form can still phone 01202 974700 and the practice team will assist with the same form.
Can You Get a Same-Day GP Slot?
There are several pieces of official wording to read together. Moordown’s current practice charter says patients should expect access to a doctor for an urgent case on the same day. Its homepage also says evening enhanced-access slots after 5pm may prioritise people who have an urgent need or require a same-day consultation.
That does not mean every patient who submits a routine request is guaranteed a same-day face-to-face GP appointment. The safer interpretation is: same-day access is for clinically urgent need and depends on triage, available capacity and the most appropriate professional.
REQUEST Send the request
Use the current online GP request form.
DETAIL Explain urgency
Make clear why the problem cannot reasonably wait.
TRIAGE Practice reviews it
The request may be routed to the right clinician or service.
PLAN Follow the outcome
Same-day help may be GP, another clinician, pharmacy or another service.
If you are comparing Bournemouth same-day systems, our Shelley Manor Medical Centre same-day GP guide explains another local model where urgent same-day help begins through the surgery rather than guaranteed walk-in treatment.
Medical Request or Admin Request: Which One Should You Choose?
| What you need | Better starting route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New or worsening health problem | Medical Request | The issue needs clinical review or care navigation. |
| Urgent GP problem that cannot wait | Medical Request / contact practice | Make the urgency clear so the practice can assess it appropriately. |
| Paperwork or non-clinical request | Admin Request | Avoids using clinical appointment capacity for administration. |
| Nurse appointment | Phone reception | Moordown specifically says nurse appointments should be booked by reception. |
| Minor illness suitable for pharmacy | Pharmacy First / pharmacist | The practice actively asks patients to consider pharmacy advice first. |
| Life-threatening emergency | 999 | Do not use a GP web form for an emergency. |
Nurse Appointments Still Use Reception
The new online GP-request process does not mean every appointment has moved to the same form. Moordown’s current homepage says all nurse appointments should be booked by calling reception on 01202 974700.
Nurse appointment
Call reception rather than submitting a GP request solely to obtain a nursing slot.
Long-term condition clinics
Moordown lists nurse-led or nurse-supported clinics for areas including asthma, diabetes, coronary heart disease and COPD.
Screening and vaccinations
Practice nurses are also used for services such as cervical screening and vaccinations where appropriate.
Routine Telephone Appointments: Keep the Right Number Available
Moordown’s appointments page says non-urgent problems can be dealt with through routine telephone appointments booked in advance. It warns that the doctor may call at any point during the day up to 6:30pm.
Evening Appointments May Be at East Way Clinic
Moordown is part of Central Bournemouth Primary Care Network, alongside James Fisher Medical Centre, St Alban’s Medical Centre and Panton Practice.
The practice currently advertises enhanced-access clinics at East Way Clinic, BH8 9PU. These are appointment-only services rather than a general walk-in extension of the Moordown reception desk.
Moordown says available evening slots may prioritise patients with an urgent need or those requiring a same-day consultation.
If you are offered enhanced access, check whether your appointment is at East Way rather than 2A Redhill Crescent before travelling.
Regular Moordown Opening Hours
The current practice opening-hours page displays 8:00am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday closed.
| Day | Listed surgery hours | What patients should remember |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 8:00am–6:30pm | GP booking uses the current online-request process. |
| Tuesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Check whether the task is GP, nurse, pharmacy or admin first. |
| Wednesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | First Wednesday of each month has a midday closure. |
| Thursday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Some enhanced-access appointments may be at another site. |
| Friday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Sort routine medicine and admin before the weekend where possible. |
| Saturday | Closed | Use 111 for urgent non-emergency help when appropriate. |
| Sunday | Closed | 999 for life-threatening emergencies. |
First Wednesday of the Month: Midday Closure
Moordown’s official opening-hours page states that the practice is closed on the first Wednesday of each month between 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
Moordown Is Actively Asking Patients to Think Pharmacy First
The current homepage asks patients to consider a community pharmacist for common illnesses and medication questions before automatically requesting a GP appointment.
Minor illness advice
The practice gives examples including coughs, colds, sore throats, ear infections, aches and pains.
Medicine questions
Pharmacists can advise about how to use medicines, possible side effects and other medication concerns.
If pharmacy is not enough
Moordown says pharmacists can refer patients onwards to a GP or another healthcare professional when necessary.
Repeat Prescriptions: Plan Before You Run Out
Moordown’s practice charter tells patients to allow 72 hours for repeat prescription processing and says repeat medication requests are generally not taken by telephone except in exceptional circumstances.
The practice supports online repeat ordering and written prescription requests. Use the current prescription page to confirm the latest route.
Do not leave a routine repeat request until the final dose, particularly before weekends or bank holidays.
How to Register as a New Patient
Moordown uses the NHS Register with a GP surgery service and asks applicants to check the practice boundary before applying.
Check your postcode against the practice boundary
The practice explicitly asks people not to register if their home address is outside its boundary.
Use the NHS online registration service
Moordown links to the national NHS registration form from its new-patient page.
You do not need standard identity documents
Moordown says you do not need proof of address, immigration status, ID or an NHS number to use the NHS registration service.
Use a paper form if digital registration is unsuitable
The practice says a paper registration form remains available.
If Moordown does not cover your postcode, use our NHS GP and medical-centre finder guide to find a surgery near your address and then check that practice’s actual boundary before applying.
Disabled Access and Hearing Support
Moordown’s new-patient information confirms that disabled-patient facilities are available at the surgery.
Accessible parking
The practice lists car-parking space among its disabled facilities.
Ramp and toilet
A ramp and disabled toilet are also specifically mentioned by the practice.
Hearing loop
Moordown says a hearing loop is available. If you depend on it, mention your communication need when booking.
Test Results: Do Not Assume Silence Means Everything Is Normal
Moordown’s test-results guidance makes an important distinction: the surgery says it will contact patients where there is a significant problem, but it also tells patients not to assume a result is normal simply because nobody has called.
A GP may have advice or follow-up recommendations even when a result does not represent a major abnormality. Where available, online record access can also help you view results.

If Booking Does Not Go as Expected

|---|---|---|
| You cannot log into the GP request form | The current request form does not require a login | Start again from the practice homepage and use New request / Online Consultation Requests. |
| The online form rejects the request | Personal details may not match the practice record | Check name, date of birth and other details carefully; call reception if needed. |
| You need a nurse appointment | Nurse booking follows a separate route | Call 01202 974700. |
| You need same-day help | The request needs urgent clinical prioritisation | Submit the medical request and explain urgency clearly; use 111/999 if the issue exceeds routine GP care. |
| The GP telephone appointment was missed | The practice says the doctor may only try once | Contact the practice to arrange another appropriate route. |
| You arrive on the first Wednesday around lunchtime | Monthly 12pm–2pm closure | Check current opening information and return/contact the practice when open. |
| You need a routine repeat prescription urgently | Request may have been left too late | Use the official prescription route and allow the practice’s stated processing time; use pharmacy/111 advice if unexpectedly out of medicine. |
