Use the Right Heaton Online Route Before You Book
Heaton patients now have several digital routes, and they do different jobs. The practice’s current online-services guidance uses eConsult for appointment, prescription and administrative requests, while Patient Access remains available to existing users and the NHS App supports a wider set of NHS account functions.
If you cannot use an online form, Heaton explicitly says its reception team can help. Digital access should not become a barrier to asking the practice for help.

Choose the Task Before Choosing the Login
“Patient Access” can mean the Patient Access platform, but it can also be used loosely to describe getting access to your GP. At Heaton, those are not the same thing.
| What you need | Start here | Heaton-specific detail | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| New GP appointment request | eConsult | Heaton’s current online-services page directs appointment requests through its online form. | Assuming Patient Access is the only route for a new clinical request. |
| Administrative request | eConsult admin form | The practice specifically includes fit notes and referral-chasing among online administrative requests. | Sending medical information through a general comments form. |
| Existing Patient Access account | Patient Access | The current online-services page says patients already using Patient Access can continue using it. | Creating multiple accounts because a GP-request form is not visible inside Patient Access. |
| Repeat prescription | NHS App / supported online service | NHS App can display eligible repeat medicines and send a request to the practice. | Waiting until all medication has run out. |
| Test result | NHS App or Heaton result route | Reviewed results can be viewed in the NHS account; phone or visit after 11:30am if needed. | Assuming silence always means no follow-up is needed. |
| Evening or Saturday appointment | Ask Heaton about Bolton Enhanced Access | Bolton GP Federation operates weekday-evening and Saturday hubs, including Heaton Medical Centre. | Turning up without a booked Enhanced Access appointment. |
How to Use Heaton’s eConsult Route
Heaton’s dedicated online-services page gives a clearer practice-specific route than a generic search result. Use that page before entering confidential information.
Open Heaton Medical Centre’s Online Services page
Use Heaton Medical Centre Online Services. The practice identifies eConsult as its online GP-contact route.
Use the NHS App route or Heaton’s eConsult link
Heaton says patients can open the NHS App, select the service tab and then online services, or use the eConsult link supplied on the practice website.
Choose medical or administrative request
Select the route that matches what you need rather than entering a clinical problem into an administrative request.
Confirm the request is non-urgent
Heaton’s instructions explicitly ask patients to confirm that an eConsult request is non-urgent. If it cannot safely wait, use the appropriate urgent route.
Explain the request clearly
Give the information requested by the official form and tell the practice how you want to be contacted.
Submit and keep an eye on your phone or email
Heaton says the response may arrive by email or text with advice or the next step.
For another Greater Manchester example where GP access, online booking and Patient Access-style services have to be separated, see our Range Medical Centre Patient Access and online GP guide .
Patient Access, eConsult and NHS App Have Different Jobs
eConsult
Heaton’s current instructions use eConsult for appointment, prescription and administrative requests sent to the practice.
Patient Access
Heaton’s current online-services page says that patients who already use Patient Access can continue to use it.
Do not assume that every new GP request must appear as a direct appointment slot inside Patient Access.
NHS App
Heaton promotes the NHS App for supported tasks including appointments, repeat prescriptions, health records, test results and NHS services available to your account.
The Maples Medical Centre GP booking and Patient Access guide shows another Greater Manchester practice where the account you use for records or prescriptions is not necessarily the same thing as the practice’s current clinical-triage route.
When Should You Expect a Response?
Heaton’s dedicated online-services page says that after an eConsult request you can expect a response by 5:00pm the following day.
The practice homepage also describes its online-contact routes as usually producing a response within one working day. Those two descriptions broadly point to next-working-day handling, but neither should be treated as emergency-response cover.
Submit the eConsult and monitor the contact method you supplied.
Do not keep waiting simply because an online request has already been submitted. Use a more appropriate urgent route if needed.
Call 999 instead of waiting for a GP text, email or callback.
Current Heaton Medical Centre Standard Hours
Heaton’s current online-services page displays the following standard opening pattern.
| Day | Published standard hours | Patient note |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Enhanced Access may operate later by appointment. |
| Tuesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Standard practice hours. |
| Wednesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Older documents mention earlier Wednesday extended sessions; use current Enhanced Access information instead. |
| Thursday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Older CQC-era schedules showed later Thursday sessions; standard current footer is 8:00am–6:30pm. |
| Friday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Check bank-holiday notices when relevant. |
Evening and Saturday Appointments Through Bolton Enhanced Access
Bolton GP Federation currently provides Enhanced Access appointments for patients registered with Bolton GP practices. These appointments are booked through the patient’s own GP practice.
Monday–Friday
Current Bolton GP Federation hours are 6:30pm–9:30pm.
Saturday
Current Enhanced Access hours are 9:00am–5:00pm.
Heaton is one of the hubs
Bolton GP Federation lists Heaton Medical Centre, 2 Lucy Street, as an Enhanced Access location.
Repeat Prescriptions: Choose a Medication Route, Not a New GP Appointment
Heaton’s current online-services guidance explicitly includes prescription requests among the tasks that can be submitted through its online form.
NHS App
The practice says the NHS App can show available repeat medicines, let you request an eligible repeat and choose a pharmacy.
Patient Access
Existing Patient Access users can continue using the platform for supported online services.
Prescription query
Heaton’s eConsult instructions include prescription requests, which can be useful when the issue is not simply selecting an existing repeat medicine.
How Heaton Patients Can Check Test Results
Heaton’s current test-results information says the practice will contact you by SMS when a further appointment is needed.
Wait for clinical review
Results need to be reviewed before reception can give the practice’s recorded interpretation or next-step message.
Check your NHS account
Once reviewed, eligible results may be visible through the NHS website or NHS App.
Phone or visit after 11:30am
Heaton’s result page says patients can phone or visit after 11:30am for results.
If you have heard nothing within two weeks, check
The practice advises checking the NHS App or contacting the surgery if you have not heard anything within two weeks.
Hospital-requested tests are different
Heaton’s published clinic information explains that when a hospital consultant requests tests, results go back to that consultant and may not automatically appear with the GP immediately. Check that Heaton has the result before booking an appointment specifically to discuss it.
The practice also publishes that routine phlebotomy appointments are available at the surgery when requested by its doctors.
Registering With Heaton Medical Centre
The current NHS profile says Heaton Medical Centre is accepting new patients.
Start from the current NHS Heaton profile
Use the NHS Heaton Medical Centre profile and open its registration information.
Check that the practice covers your address
GP practice boundaries can matter even when another surgery looks farther away on a map.
Complete the official registration process
NHS guidance says you do not need proof of address, immigration status, ID or an NHS number simply to register with a GP surgery in England.
Separate GP registration from online-account verification
A practice can ask you to verify identity before granting wider online-record access. That does not mean ID is a legal requirement just to become an NHS GP patient.
Why You May Now See “Heaton Group Health” and Dalefield Surgery
Heaton’s current website published a Merger Newsletter in June 2026. Current NHS recruitment material also describes staff as working across the two sites of Heaton Group Health: Heaton Medical Centre and Dalefield Surgery.
2 Lucy Street, Heaton, Bolton, BL1 5PU. NHS organisation code P82031.
Avondale Health Centre, Avondale Street, Bolton. A separate NHS practice identity is still used in current records.
PatientAccess.com Can Also Show a Pharmacy at the Same Address
This is a particularly easy source of confusion at Heaton. NHS records list Kamsons Pharmacy at Heaton Medical Centre, 2 Lucy Street.
PatientAccess.com also has a provider page for that pharmacy. That page is a pharmacy service listing and should not be mistaken for Heaton Medical Centre’s GP Patient Access login.
Heaton Medical Centre
01204 843677
NHS code P82031
Kamsons Pharmacy is separately listed by the NHS at the same Lucy Street location and has its own contact details and services.
Heaton Also Publishes Local Support for Carers
If you regularly look after a family member or friend who is elderly, ill or disabled, Heaton asks patients to tell the practice that they are a carer.
With permission, the practice says it can add the patient to its carers register and refer them towards Bolton Carers Support.
Heaton Is Also a GP Training Practice
Bolton GP Training Hub currently lists Heaton Medical Centre among practices accredited for GP training placements. This means qualified doctors in GP training may form part of the clinical team.
Earlier Heaton practice material also explains that medical students may be present during some consultations and that patients should be informed. If you are uncomfortable with a trainee or student being present, tell the clinical team.
Heaton’s CQC Records Need Careful Reading
Searching CQC for this address can produce more than one Heaton Medical Centre registration. They should not be blended into one rating.
Longstanding GP-practice record
CQC location 1-599745388 currently displays an overall rating of Good.
The report shown was published on 7 November 2016. CQC records a later data review on 6 July 2023 and said it had not found evidence requiring the rating to be reassessed at that stage.
Separate Bolton GP Partnership registration
CQC also has location 1-18391252684 at 2 Lucy Street, registered on 31 January 2024, provided by Bolton GP Partnership Limited.
That separate record is shown as not yet inspected.
For another Greater Manchester example where current patient routes and historic quality records need to be read separately, see our Didsbury Medical Centre GP booking guide .
NHS Organisation Code P82031 and Data-Security Status
The NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit identifies Heaton Medical Centre as organisation P82031, with primary sector General Practice (GP).
Useful identity check
P82031 helps distinguish the Bolton GP surgery from other healthcare organisations elsewhere in the UK with “Heaton” in their name.
Standards met
The NHS toolkit records the practice’s 2025–26 assessment as “Standards met”, published on 30 June 2026.
The DSP Toolkit is about NHS data-security standards. It is not a CQC clinical-quality rating or a patient review score.
Common Heaton Access Problems and the Next Step
| Problem | What is happening | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Patient Access does not show the GP request you expected | Heaton uses eConsult for appointment and administrative requests. | Open Heaton’s Online Services page and use its current eConsult route. |
| Search results show several systems such as PATCHS, Accurx or RapidHealth | The website platform can expose generic online-service modules. | Use Heaton’s dedicated Online Services page, which gives Heaton-specific eConsult instructions. |
| You cannot complete eConsult | Digital access should not block practice access. | Call 01204 843677 or speak to reception; Heaton says staff can assist. |
| Patient Access search opens Kamsons Pharmacy | The pharmacy has its own PatientAccess.com provider listing at the same address. | Return to Heaton Medical Centre’s official GP website for GP access. |
| Your result is not visible | It may still be awaiting review or may have been requested by a hospital team. | Check NHS App, contact Heaton after the published result time, or contact the hospital department that requested the test. |
| A message mentions Dalefield Surgery | 2026 material groups Heaton and Dalefield operationally under Heaton Group Health. | Read the appointment location rather than assuming every booking is at Lucy Street. |
| CQC shows both Good and “not inspected” | Two separate CQC registrations exist at the same address. | Match the location/provider record before interpreting the rating. |
| You need help while the surgery is closed | Routine Heaton channels are not the right urgent-care route. | Use NHS 111 for urgent non-life-threatening help; call 999 for a life-threatening emergency. |
Before You Travel to Lucy Street

- If a specific accessibility or parking feature is essential, confirm current availability with reception before the journey.
