Potterells is no longer a simple “phone reception and book a GP slot” surgery
Potterells Medical Centre now puts Total Triage at the centre of appointment access. Clinical requests are submitted online, reviewed by the clinical team and then prioritised according to need.
The practice also has a sizeable current doctor team, weekday opening that runs later on Tuesday, and separate evening/weekend Enhanced Access appointments. Understanding those differences is more useful than simply knowing the Station Road address.
Potterells Serves Welham Green, North Mymms and a Growing Local Population
Potterells Medical Centre is the GP practice on Station Road in Welham Green, within North Mymms. Official NHS records use the same AL9 7SN address and identify the practice with organisation code E82058.
The surgery’s Summer 2026 patient newsletter also gives useful context that does not appear on a basic directory page. Potterells said roughly two-thirds of its patients are local residents, with the remainder including students cared for through its University satellite surgery.
The same update discusses planned housing growth in Brookmans Park and Welham Green and says the practice is considering ways to expand capacity and use community facilities as demand grows.
Current GP Doctors Listed by Potterells
The names below come from Potterells’ current public doctor directory. The page distinguishes GP Partners from other GPs. Availability changes by session, so a listed doctor is not guaranteed to be working every day.
GP Partners
GPs
If you are comparing nearby Hertfordshire practices, our Garston Medical Centre phone, hours and two-site guide shows why a local GP’s site, doctor roster and booking system should always be checked separately rather than assumed from another surgery.
Your Named Accountable GP Does Not Lock You to One Doctor
Potterells says every registered patient is allocated a named accountable GP who is responsible for their overall care.
That does not mean you are only allowed to book appointments with that GP. The practice says patients can see any of its GPs, and it will make reasonable efforts to accommodate a preference about who is allocated as the named doctor.
State the doctor you would prefer when submitting the request. A preferred GP may not be available as quickly as another clinician.
Potterells says reception can tell you which accountable GP is allocated to you.
Clinical urgency can matter more than continuity with a specific doctor, so follow the triage response you receive.
Potterells GP Appointments Now Start With Total Triage
This is the biggest practical change to understand. Potterells’ current appointment page says appointments with clinicians are now requested through its website or NHS-linked online route by completing a short form, rather than being directly booked by telephone.
Open Potterells’ current appointment page
Use the official Potterells appointments page rather than a saved third-party booking link.
Submit the Accurx online request
Potterells’ clinical-request window is currently published as 8:00am–5:30pm Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
Give enough detail for clinical triage
The practice asks patients to provide as much useful information as possible because the request is reviewed before the next action is decided.
The clinical team assesses the request
Potterells publishes a target of assessment within one working day. The practice’s Summer 2026 newsletter says every request is reviewed and prioritised according to clinical need.
Watch for a text, email or phone response
Potterells says patients can be contacted by text, email or telephone. Keep contact details current and check the junk/spam folder if you are expecting an email.
If the request is routine, you may receive a self-booking link
Potterells says some routine patients may be sent an online link allowing them to choose a suitable available appointment.
Urgent Same-Day Help Still Goes Through Clinical Triage
During the online-triage window, Potterells asks patients with urgent GP problems to submit the same online request. The difference is what happens during review.
Submit during triage hours
The clinical team reviews and prioritises the problem according to the information supplied.
Same-day may be offered
Potterells says an urgent request may result in a short-notice appointment and you may be asked to attend the same day.
After 5:30pm
When online triage has closed but the surgery is still open, Potterells says patients can telephone reception for care-navigation advice.
Potterells Opening Hours: Tuesday Is the Late Published Day
The current live opening-hours table is more specific than several older descriptions of evening appointments. It lists Tuesday as Potterells’ late normal opening day.
| Day | Current published opening | Patient note |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Separate pages also describe pre-booked evening appointments. |
| Tuesday | 8:00am–8:30pm | This is the late opening shown in Potterells’ current opening table. |
| Wednesday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Online triage still closes earlier at 5:30pm. |
| Thursday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Check practice notices for training closures or bank holidays. |
| Friday | 8:00am–6:30pm | Normal weekday opening. |
| Saturday | Closed for normal opening | Pre-booked extended-access appointments may still be available. |
| Sunday | Closed for normal opening | Use the relevant out-of-hours route if help cannot wait. |
Evening and Weekend GP Appointments Can Be at Spring House
Potterells participates in WelHat Enhanced Access, where local practices work together to offer routine GP and nurse appointments outside ordinary hours.
Many local GP surgeries finish normal weekday opening around this time.
20:00 Weekday enhanced access
Potterells publishes local hub appointments on weekday evenings.
08–16 Saturday hub
Pre-booked routine GP or nurse access is published for Saturdays.
Potterells says you may need to travel to Spring House Medical Centre.
Another Hertfordshire example is our Sheepcot Medical Centre weekend GP and NHS 111 guide , where normal weekend closure and separately booked extended access also need to be kept distinct.
Accurx, NHS App and SystmOnline Have Different Uses
| Service | Best use at Potterells | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Accurx / online request | New clinical requests, appointment requests, GP advice, referrals and administrative requests. | Clinical request window is published as 8am–5:30pm weekdays. |
| NHS App / NHS account | Repeat prescriptions, results and supported NHS account features. | Available functions depend on what is enabled for your record. |
| SystmOnline | Medical-record access, repeat prescriptions and supported online services. | It should not replace the current Accurx triage route for a new GP problem. |
Potterells Nurse Appointments Cover More Than Dressings and Injections
Potterells asks patients to submit an online request for nurse appointments too. Its Care Navigation Team then contacts the patient to arrange the slot.
Screening
Cervical screening, health checks and blood-pressure care are among the published nurse services.
Treatment room
Dressings, wound care, Dopplers, ECGs and selected procedures are listed by the practice.
Women’s health
Contraception, coil and implant counselling and HRT are among the published nurse routes.
Vaccinations
Potterells lists services including flu, shingles, COVID, RSV, pneumonia and B12 appointments where appropriate.
Potterells also publishes long-term-condition review services for conditions including diabetes, coronary heart disease, hypertension, stroke, asthma, COPD, epilepsy and hypothyroidism.
Repeat Prescriptions Do Not Go Through the Accurx Appointment Form
Potterells’ appointment page explicitly says the clinical request form does not accept repeat-prescription requests. The prescription service has its own routes.
NHS App
Potterells recommends the NHS App / NHS website for electronic repeat requests and pharmacy nomination.
Online services
SystmOnline can also be used for repeat medication where your account is enabled.
In person
Potterells accepts the repeat portion of a prescription or a written request through the prescription box by reception.
For Test Results, Call After 11am or Check Online
After a doctor has reviewed a result, Potterells says patients can check it through the NHS App / NHS account, supported online services, or by telephone.
Call 01707 273338 after 11:00am.
Potterells says tests arranged by hospital doctors will normally be discussed by the hospital team unless you were specifically told otherwise.
Registering at Potterells: Boundary First, Then Choose One Form Route
NHS currently identifies Potterells as accepting new patients. Potterells asks prospective patients to check the practice boundary before completing registration.
Check your postcode against the Potterells boundary
Potterells’ registration page includes a postcode check. Living nearby does not automatically prove that the address is inside the practice area.
Choose one registration route
The practice offers its own online registration forms, NHS registration and in-person registration. Potterells specifically asks patients not to submit through more than one route.
For in-person registration, use the published registration window
Potterells currently publishes in-person registration Monday to Friday, 12:00pm–2:00pm, plus Monday evenings 6:30pm–8:30pm.
Know the national NHS document rule
Potterells’ local page asks for photo ID and recent proof of address, but current NHS England guidance says ID, proof of address, proof of immigration status and an NHS number are not required simply to register with a GP surgery.
For another Hertfordshire registration example, our Abbotswood Medical Centre new-patient guide explains how to separate “accepting patients” from the separate question of whether a home address falls inside the practice boundary.
If Potterells does not cover your address, use our NHS GP surgery finder and registration guide to search by postcode and verify another practice before submitting personal information.
Potterells Publishes Detailed Accessibility and Parking Information
Wheelchair access
The practice says a wheelchair is available and lists wheelchair access plus a disabled WC.

Potterells publishes an induction loop at reception and asks patients to tell staff about hearing difficulties.

- Guide dogs are welcomed by the practice.
- Braille translation support is listed on the contact page.
- Large-print or alternative-format information can be requested for visual-access needs.
- Tell reception about additional needs so support can be recorded for future visits.
